England’s no.1, England, England’s no.1

David James has been officially confirmed as England’s no.1 this summer…

Well at least he has been issued shirt no.1 so this means he will be the England no.1 at the world cup, right?

Many will feel that being issued the no.1 shirt makes this the case, which I would hope it does. Then again what do squad numbers actually mean these days – although you would ‘expect’ start the season, or tournament, with what the manager sees as the first choice starting 11 wearing numbers 1-11 really.

Rob Green has been the no.1 for England recently, and is a top keeper but I never fully have that confidence in him.

Joe Hart is an awesome keeper in the making and, as good as I know he already is, left me feeling even more confident in his ability after his display against Japan – he also takes a mean penalty if we needed him in a shoot out, which hopefully we will not!

James is, and always has been for me, the no.1 so it is right that he has got this, assuming this actually means that he is Fabio Capello’s no.1…
