Eastwood appreciates playing for Pompey

One of the few players to be with Pompey from start to finish this season has been Simon Eastwood.

It took a while for the keepers chance to come, and when it did he did not exactly fill you with confidence that he could do the job to be honest…

He has definitely grown in stature though the more he has played.

A lot of this is down to being in a settle side I would think, you need confidence in the defenders in front of you, but they need it in you too – without a settled side no one can build up an understanding at all and sometimes looking to take charge has a negative impact, as can everyone waiting for each other!

Eastwood, as he told The News, has no qualms about staying. In fact he wants this done ASAP: ‘Guy is in the process of sorting players out. If we can keep the majority of the players here that will be a massive boost for us.

‘We have some good players and it’s going to be important to keep those good players going into next season.

‘We’ve had a sit down and have spoken about things. I’ve said that I want to stay here. I think Guy knows the players he wants to keep.

‘Were finished now but hopefully in a week or so the players who are signing will travel to the club and sign.’

Being at Pompey is something that Eastwood ‘appreciates’ but doing this on a permanent, settled, contract would be nice, as he knows the potential is there for us to rebuild and rise again.

Although ‘managing expectation’ is key: ‘it’ll be nice to sign a proper contract. I was here from the first day, so I’ve signed eight or nine now at least.

‘I’m looking forward to getting it done and not worrying about it. Then you aren’t panicking about sorting it out.

‘I appreciate playing for a club like this but we’ve got a challenge ahead of us now.

‘We’ll be bookies` favourites to win the league.

‘There will be a lot of expectation on us, so hopefully we can manage them.’

Eastwood has improved as the season has gone one, more so since Alan Knight has returned.

Coincidental?

Maybe so but I would have no problems whatsoever with him as our keeper next season that is for certain – he is a decent keeper that would be on realistic and sustainable money, so it should be a no-brainer really.
