Pompey’s new owner in waiting Sulaiman Al Fahim, or as we call him Dr SAF, paid his first visit to Fratton on Friday afternoon, also visiting offices at Rodney Road and meeting with some supporters – spending plenty of time with them answering questions.

He did not have a lot to say, but the Pompey Site has published what was said: ‘we are currently conducting a thorough due diligence process into the acquisition of Portsmouth FC. I cannot, therefore, comment on the deal at this point.

‘I can assure you, however, that as soon as this process is over I will be able to present my ambitious vision for the club’s future.

‘I’m pleased to be here and I hope I will be able to deliver what the fans want.

‘I also want to say that I have been very warmly welcomed here both by the club and its supporters and I look forward to attending many successful matches at Fratton Park as well as getting to know the city and its people.’

Dr SAF has said all the right things so far, and did this again yesterday, and is said to have continued to do so when talking to fans afterwards – lets hope that the due diligence is completed as soon as possible, word is this is expected to be finalised in the next couple of weeks?

Either way though, when he is free to comment on the deal I look forward to hearing what his vision is.

Peter Storrie had this to add: ‘we must remember we are in a period of due diligence but Sulaiman al Fahim enjoyed the time he spent at Fratton Park which is encouraging.

‘Sulaiman al Fahim saw the ground and surprised me with his knowledge of the Pompey squad.

‘He was also keen to speak with some of our long standing supporters and spent half an hour listening to their views.

‘I think he was impressed with what he saw and heard and he has a terrific enthusiasm that matches what our fans feel.’

If he shares half the enthusiasm we do then we are onto a real winner!

Rumours persist that Glen Johnson will be leaving, I just hope that we hang fire on any decision with him, and to be fair any other players, until we know exactly where we stand – selling our best player is not something that we should look to rush into, and hopefully we will not do this…

Of course in typical media fashion The Sun had to have their say saying ‘fears were mounting last night over who is really putting the money into Portsmouth’s proposed takeover.

Premier League chiefs still do not know full details of the bid by Sulaiman Al-Fahim.

It has yet to be rubber- stamped – even though he was paraded around Fratton Park yesterday.’

Blah, blah, blah – of course the Pompey hating media does not want anything good to happen to ‘little Portsmouth’ do they!

I wish that I had been able to get down to Fratton on Friday, but when you live in Devon its not that easy is it – even more so if you have to work! Was anyone able to make it though, if so what was it like?
