Sylvain Distin is preparing himself for arguably the biggest test he has faced this season so far when he comes up again ‘El Nino’ or as it translates ‘The Kid’, better known as Fernando Torres to me and you.

He has told The News that although it took the striker a little time to settle in England he is doing this more and more all the time and clearly rates him very highly: ‘Fernando Torres is a great player.

‘He had a tough time when he first arrived because it’s not easy to settle down.

‘But now he is coming to form and scoring goals.

‘It’s not easy coming to a new country. It’s not just the football, it’s the lifestyle.

‘He is trying to understand and read the English game better.

‘He is a class player – in the top five or 10 strikers in Europe’.

Lets hope that between Distin and Sol Campbell – and of course everyone else – we can contain Torres, if we can do this then we will go along way towards achieving what we would love to do at Anfield tomorrow.

He also gave praise to Liverpool and is refusing to rule them out of the title race – defeat by us though would almost certainly mean this – but did acknowledge that you never quite know what team is going to turn up, which is true they are brilliant one day then ‘average’ at best the next…
