Most of this morning news from Fratton Park surrounds star midfield player Lassana Diarra. Diarra is currently away with France for the midweek international much to the annoyance of manager Tony Adams.
Firstly, we heard yesterday that he had badly sprained his ankle following a tackle with Scott Parker at Upton Park on Saturday causing him to limp off after just nineteen minutes and leave the ground on crutches. Adams has said he would have liked to have had a scan done on Sunday but had by international rules to release Diarra to join up with his national side.
News now seem to suggest that Pompey will be without their midfield inspiration for at least three weeks which means he will miss the next three games all at home including the much awaited UEFA cup game with AC Milan on 27th November. Lassana of course is still unbeaten in cup games playing for English Clubs. Pompey are of course still without Sol Campbell and Niko Krancjar at present.
On the transfer front Executive Chairman Peter Storrie has told fans not to panic over press rumours over the impending sale of Diarra. Press rumours had been circulating that there is a release clause in his contract if a bid of £10 Million is submitted.
Storrie told the News ‘There is no clause in his contract whatsoever – it is absolute rubbish.
‘Let’s get this straight, we are not looking to sell Diarra. Also, if someone came in and wanted him they would have to pay an awful lot of money, credit crunch or no credit crunch.
‘He’s is a fantastic football player and I think will go on to be one of the best midfield players there is in the world.
‘If they come here and offer us Mickey Mouse money – not a chance.
‘I have to say to the supporters, please don’t listen to the rubbish and the nonsense.
