Dejan is still in Redknapp’s plans

Weekend reports had linked Dejan Stefanovic with a move away from Pompey, but Harry Redknapp – with what he said in The News – says he is still very much in his plans this season, even though this will not be as captain.

He may have lost the captaincy to Sol Campbell but Redknapp says this is simply because he might not play enough games to warrant it ‘Dejan has been fantastic but I think he knows I’ve bought Sylvain Distin in as well and it’s whether he now gets in the team on a regular basis.

‘He may well do – don’t get me wrong. I think he’ll be pushing Hermann Hreidarsson and Djimi Traore for that left-back spot, so he may well be playing all the games’.

With Stefanovic sitting out most of this pre season things were not looking good for him, but this has apparently been due to him carrying a slight groin strain, which has forced him out of the last 4 matches – this injury is news to me though.

I really like the fellas as a person, but he will find it hard to play this season – we all pretty much agree on this – and to be honest Redknapp’s words are still not filling me with that much belief that even he still believes Stefanovic will play that much this season?

My thinking is that he will most likely stay until the January transfer window opens then the situation will possibly be reviewed then, but I would still not be surprised, even though I would be saddened, if he left before August 31st.
