The Spurs striker was apparently told yesterday by Juande Ramos that he can leave White Hart Lane and the thought is that we had made a loan enquiry about him, which if true was understandably rejected as Spurs want to sell rather than loan.

Defoe is said to be one of several players that Spurs are trying to offload this month, but with it always said that he would like to move to one of the ‘big 4’ clubs not to mention the fact that we cannot afford – or apparently cannot – the £10m asking price it seems more and more likely that such a deal will not happen?

The England man himself is insisting that he does not want to go and does want to sign a new contract, so this saga appears that it will have some time to run yet…
