Well even though it seems there are a few i’s to dot and t’s to cross still on Jermaine Defoe’s full debut, the striker didn’t let it show.

After a quiet first half the striker, now called up to the England squad after initially being left out of Fabio Capello’s 30 man provisional squad, pounced in typical fashion to level Nicolas Anelka’s classy opener at Fratton Park.

Much has been reported of the dependency of Defoe’s reported £9m move on Benjani’s exit to Eastlands, an issue likely to be resolved this week despite the closure of the transfer window. Sven Goran Eriksson still maintains he wants the player even with, technically, no time left for incoming players until the summer.

However Defoe is ignoring the rumours and, speaking in his post-match interview following the Chelsea match, says he’s absoluted thrilled to get off the mark on his debut. The 25-year old knows all about netting on debut having scored AGAINST Pompey 4 years ago for Tottenham in a thrilling 4-3 clash.
