Jermain Defoe not only became the first Pompey player to score for England in 24 years he also became the first Pompey player to score two goals for 77 years after his double for England against Trinidad & Tobago last night.

Mark Hateley was the last Pompey man to score for his country in a memorable game with Brazil in 1984, with Jack Smith scoring his two against Spain way back in 1931!

Defoe was obviously delighted: ‘it was important to win and I’m so pleased to get two goals

‘I’m still learning and when a new manager comes in you all start at the same level,

‘I will keep working hard. I finished the season strongly and I couldn’t be happier with my move to Portsmouth. I’m delighted with my goals.’
