Chix looks back at some previous transfers rumours

The following are true reports from websites and newspapers from past transfer windows – Well the reporting is true at least !

Beck off Milan, Harry’s lurking!
The News – Burton`s Banter
Sports desk: ‘Was he serious or is Harry having a laugh?’
Reporter in Braga: ‘He meant it.
Sports desk: ‘Really? It’s Beckham we’re talking about and he is in talks with Milan.’
Reporter: ‘Harry was serious – he really thought about putting in a bid for him.’
(Still unbelieving) Sports desk: ‘Okay, I suppose we’ll have to play it reasonably straight.’
And so went the conversation for a little while longer until The News sports desk were half-convinced they weren’t the victim of an embarrassing wind-up.
The result is our back page today.
The Sun, somewhat understandably, had a little fun with it but they, too, played it reasonably straight.
Harry Redknapp was serious – he thought about bidding for David Beckham.
He hasn’t a chance, of course. the world’s most recognisable footballer is half-way to the San Siro to play for AC Milan in a loan deal.
It’s easy to view the whole thing as another Harry joke. And let’s be honest, the tongue must have been firmly in cheek for at least some of the press conference.
A little bit of fantasy, maybe, but then we thought that when Redknapp went after Sol Campbell and look what happened there.
Granted, big Sol cut a troubled figure at the time and didn’t have a high-maintenance former Spice Girl on his arm (just imagine Posh Spice walking down Commercial Road!).
Football-wise, though, how Harry – a born self-publicist – would have loved to have talked Beckham into coming to Fratton Park. He’d give it a go, for sure.
He also knows if Campbell was a long shot, getting Becks to even consider coming to Fratton Park is mission impossible.
Redknapp’s comments leave him open to ridicule.
But it’s a credit to him and the progress Pompey are making that he was only half-joking.

Vieira hints at Inter exit
Setanta
Patrick Vieira has insisted that leaving Inter is an option to him.
The France legend has grown frustrated by his lack of action at the San Siro, and he has hinted that he could embark on a new challenge next season.
Vieira will turn 33 shortly, and his last two seasons have been wasted by recurrent injuries. Nevertheless, the midfielder still feels capable of playing at the highest level.
The Frenchman has been linked to Claude Makelele`s Paris Saint Germain in recent weeks and to Portsmouth during the last January transfer window.
“I want to play, at Inter or elsewhere,” Vieira said on Canal+. “My choice will be a sporting one, in France or elsewhere.
“I am very good at Inter, but what I want to do is play, that`s so simple. Everybody thinks I am burnt out, but I am right here.”
He added: “Nothing`s impossible.”

Maradona will bring Villa and Eto`o to Portsmouth – lawyer
Arabianbusiness.com
Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona is offering to bring four international stars to newly owned Portsmouth, if the club appoints him as their global ambassador, his lawyer has claimed.
And in a further development, an advisor to new Pompey owner Sulaiman Al Fahim confirmed this morning that “discussions” have been held with Maradona`s cousin Remigio Maradona over a role for the former World Cup winner at the club.
Confidential emails sent by Maradona`s lawyer Angel Oscar Moyano claim the superstar is willing to act on behalf of Valencia striker David Villa and Barcelona hero Samuel Eto`o. The email also mentions his son-in-law Kun Aguero, who plays for Atletico Madrid and another Valencia striker, David Silva, as possible targets.

Dutch star Edgar Davids to make surprise return to with Premier League strugglers Portsmouth
Daily Mail
Edgar Davids is being enticed out of retirement by Portsmouth to make a shock return to the Premier League.
The 36-year-old has been without a club since his contract expired with Ajax last summer but his hiatus has only served to revive his appetite for the game.
Leicester had been in secret talks with the former Dutch internationals advisors over the last fortnight and believed they were close to luring him to the Walkers Stadium.
The Foxes board had put together an ambitious £20,000-a-week package plus a clause that would see him secure a large percentage of his image rights.
But Pompey were alerted to his availability and Davids, who was nicknamed ‘The Pitbull’ during his pomp at Ajax, Juventus and AC Milan, has arrived in England to meet both clubs.
Fratton Park officials have begun tentative talks with the ex-Tottenham star’s representatives and are prepared to match the wages Leicester have offered.
New Portsmouth owner Ali Al Faraj is now ready to provide the finances that will allow beleaguered manager Paul Hart to add to a squad that was decimated by sales over the summer.
The raft of exits subsequently led to Pompey enduring the worst start to a season by a top-flight team in 79 years as they slumped to seven league defeats in a row.
But it is hoped Davids can draw on his vast bank of experience to help steady the sinking Pompey ship.
Despite having not played competitive football in over the year, the Surinam-born midfielder is confident he still has something to offer at the highest level.

Portsmouth look to move for Roma trio
The Transfer Tavern
Portsmouth look to be preparing a January spending spree, as they move for a trio of Brazilians from AS Roma. The players on Avram Grant`s radar are, Julio Baptista, Cicinho and Doni.
Julio Baptista is familiar to English fans after an unsuccessful spell at Arsenal, Cicinho is a former Real Madrid right-back and Brazilian third choice keeper Doni, has recently lost his place in the Roma side.
With the resources of Roma stretched to their limit, it appears they will be looking to offload these players on relatively high wages but gain fairly little playing time.
Portsmouth manager, Avram Grant has already stated that the Fratton Park side need reinforcements and these three would provide higher quality than the players already on show. The Israeli is apparently in Sofia to hold initial talks with Roman officials as Roma are competing in the Europa League this week.
As Pompey look to spend some of the newly invested money, one stumbling block to any deal would be the reluctance of the players to move to a relegation threatened side.

Can you remember any players (good or bad) that we have been linked with in the past
