Cut down or ship out!

We will soon find out how much The Herminator ‘really’ wants to remain at Pompey, right?

Ok, lets be fair it cuts both ways mind…

I ‘think’, although I might be wrong, that is was a ‘clause’ that basically got him a new contract in the end last summer anyway – quite if he was on the kind of money that he previously was remains unknown, although I would not think he was on much less if it was dropped?

So, basically I would ‘guess’ that he is currently on at least £20,000 p/w, quite possibly more!

For anyone, let alone a soon to be 37-year-old who has battled back from a career threatening injury, to be on £20,000 p/w at Fratton next season would be way too much, I would guess at any level not just here, certainly in English football. So lets get realistic with things here…

The Herminator has made little secret that he wants to remain at Fratton, and to be honest I would like him to remain at Fratton too, but a significant pay-cut – as was always going to be the case – will be needed and if this does not come then we need to waive goodbye to guy even if it would be a shame to do so.

He is an infectious character and the benefits we could have, on and off the pitch, from having him around next season would be good but when all is said and done, limited players or not, this club will no longer be held to ransom and sentimentality will no longer, if it ever did anyway, come into play.

‘If’ Hermann really wants to stay at Fratton then he will instruct his agent to get real and ask for ‘sensible money’.

Ok, we all live to an amount of money we bring in but given the career that he has had I am pretty sure that he would still have more than enough reserves in place to take a hefty pay-cut and still be more than comfortable!

£10,000 p/w must be the absolute maximum we dish out to players and even that ‘could’ be considered too much for a player that will ‘probably’ (if the manager is able to bring in players he wants) not be considered a ‘1st choice’ selection next season.

Whilst it would be rash to write off The Herminator, this has been done before, lets be realistic that is it ‘unlikely’ that the 37-year-old would play week-in-week out next season, right?

Hermann, if you really want to stay instruct your agent to be realistic and get him to think about your wellbeing and not just his – that said PFC cannot take the p**s either and their offer must be ‘reasonable’, but within a realistic budget, too…
