Crouch fit to start for England

Not only has Peter Crouch fully recovered from his hip knock, something that he felt was ‘not accidental’ when he was caught by his former Liverpool teammate Martin Skrtel, the big man will lead the line for England against the Ukraine tomorrow.

An early injury to Emile Heskey at the weekend after he had scored, and missed a sitter, meant that Carlton Cole came on. Injury to him then meant that Fabio Capello had no alternative but to turn to Crouch – something he, and Pompey would have preferred not to have seen – and when he made way before the end of the game, mainly as a precaution thankfully, hearts were in mouths! The striker jinx continued when Darren Bent was called-up, but then had to drop out after picking up an injury in training, which has now seen Gabriel Agbonlahor called-up from the u21 side!

With Crouch fit and raring to go he will lead the line, with Wayne Rooney playing off him, as England look to put one foot firmly into the 2010 world cup finals.

Would it be too presumptuous to say that he would be joined by David James and Glen Johnson in the starting line-up?

If not then that would then see Pompey make up more than more than a quarter of the England starting line-up for a major competitive game, not bad for ‘little Pompey’ is it!

That is something that makes me proud, but I will also be very nervous at the thought of possible injuries, so please come through this game without any problems guys – I cannot even watch the game as I have to work to make up for another day off for football, so I will be even more on edge not actually being able to watch events as they unfold…
