Cranie moves on as Vanden Borre moves in

I have literally, around an hour or so ago, walked through my front door after a few days on the beer watching England; although watching England is probably slightly inaccurate as there was not a lot of watching as the attention span was slightly off due to copious amounts of beer in Amsterdam!

Anyway, I started hearing a few whispers whilst out there that Martin Cranie was moving on but Anthony Vanden Borre was coming in?

Both have now been officially confirmed on The Pompey Site.

22-year-old Cranie has joined Coventry for an ‘undisclosed amount’ on a 3-year contact with 21-year-old Vanden Borre joining us on loan for the season from Genoa.

I have to admit that I am somewhat sorry to see Cranie go as if he was good enough for the England U21 side, would that not have been good enough for us? I guess it is a case of ‘needs must’…

Although in Belgian international Vanden Borre we have signed a player, subject to international clearance, that can play right back or right midfield – I would suspect that right midfield will be the place we see him play most often?

Paul Hart said: ‘he’s a young Belgian international who’s threatened to do so much for quite a while – now’s the time for him to come up with the goods.

‘We’re looking forward to being a part of that.

‘He played right-back for his country on Wednesday night but he can also play in midfield. He’s good in both positions.’

Good luck to Cranie, I feel the leg break back along really slowed him down but I thought he could have come back to something like the player we once thought we had… And we all of course hope that Vanden Borre can do us a job – a full international with 18 caps cannot be bad can it?
