Pompey have made their fourth signing today, with the announcement that Martin Craine has moved 17 miles east to Portsmouth from Southampton.

Pompey manager Harry Redknapp was keen to land the 20 year old to provide yet further cover to an already huge defensive contingent. Craine signed a three year contract and he told the Pompey Official Site ‘This is a great opportunity for me to progress. I’m very much looking forward to playing for Harry again and working alongside some of the best defenders the Premier League has ever seen. Portsmouth are a very ambitious club both on and off the field and I want to be part of their future success.’

It is not clear at this stage where or even if Craine will feature in the first team next season, but Harry Redknapp was very pleased to land the defender – ‘Martin is a very promising young player who has the ability to go right to the very top of the game.’ he told the Club’s official site. ‘I remember when I played him at Man City when I was at Southampton and he did a great job that afternoon on Shaun Wright-Phillips. He has bags of talent and is a great addition to the squad.’

Perhaps now Harry has added to the midfield and also again to the defence, we can expect an announcement of a fifth signing soon in the shape of a striker?
