There’s a distinct possibility Pompey could lose the services of Ben Thompson in the New Year, however, the on-loan Millwall man isn’t going to serve the suspension we feared he would.
Having been incorrectly sent off in the defeat against Charlton, Thompson was facing the prospect of watching on from the sidelines, starting with Saturday’s trip to Barnsley as Pompey aim for an instant reaction to Tuesday’s setback.
A challenge that wasn’t even worthy of a yellow card, in fact, it probably wasn’t a foul, saw a red issued Thompson’s way. Fortunately, common sense has prevailed with the appeal Pompey put in listened to and the red card rescinded.
???? #Pompey will have @bennthompsonn available at Barnsley on Saturday after successfully appealing his red card against Charlton ⬇️https://t.co/3TCxJUzQwX

He’s quite clearly pleased with the decision and Thompson can’t wait for Saturday.

Thompson has made quite an impact for Pompey, the fact we’ll be able to call upon him during the upcoming hectic schedule is great news. I suspect the midfielder will be part of the starting XI at Oakwell and this will leave him extra motivated to play his part in a positive response, both personally and for the Blues collectively.
Good! Ref got it all wrong, Play up Pompey ????????

Thank God for that. No way was it a red card.

Good to know that sometimes, an appeal can work

Now, let’s just hope the season-long loan deal Thompson came to the south coast on can remain in place and he’s not recalled to the Den when 2019 arrives.
PLAY UP POMPEY
