Campbell out of England squad

Sol Campbell has been forced to pull out of the England squad for the Euro 2008 qualifiers, but Harry Redknapp hopes that he will be fit to return when we play Liverpool in a couple of weeks time – judging by today’s showing he will definitely be needed, hopefully Linvoy Primus will also be back!

It had been hoped that Campbell could become one of the first Pompey players to pull on an England shirt in a competitive match for the first time in over 50 years, but a hamstring injury has forced him out of the squad again, as injury had the friendly against Germany last month.

Of course we still have David James – who could be this man, but to be honest I think that Spineless Steve will stick with Paul Robinson.

My thinking is that Campbell’s chances of playing for England again might be slipping away, as the more he keeps being forced out the less chance it gives him to impress Spineless Steve, particularly as others, who will be expected to get back in will soon be returning from injuries.

He was clearly missed by Pompey today who defended poorly right along the back line, particularly in the full back areas though.
