Andre Blackman is probably not a name that a lot of Pompey fans are familiar with I would guess?

Well, the guy – in the image above – has been a regular in the reserves over the past couple of years but this was not enough to earn him a new deal this summer and we released him…

The former Arsenal and Spurs youngster has now joined Bristol City on a free, with him targeting some first team football with the championship outfit – telling the Bristol City site: ‘this is a very big move for me. I’ve not played a first team game yet, and for the gaffer to sign me and give me the chance to show what I can do is great.

‘I want to express myself and show that I can be ready for first team football. It’s a big move in general.

‘I can’t wait to get out there and play, I just have to get over my injury first.’

18-year-old Blackman, who is recovering from an injury but should be back soon, is a left back but is also believed to be able to play as a left winger.

It is a shame things could not work out for him at Pompey but he is not the first to be released by us, and most certainly will not be the last – good luck to him, lets just hope that he does not come back to haunt us one day as being ‘one of those that got away’.
