‘Big Phil’ drops SWP exit hint…

Lets face it if Chelski were to let Shaun Wright-Phillips leave it would not really be that much of a surprise would it?

‘Big Phil’ Scolari had earlier in the summer ruled out selling the winger, but he was going to do nothing less was he… The player also ruled out leaving Stamford Bridge, but again he was going to say nothing less either!

It is also the worst keep secret that Harry Redknapp is desperate to bring him in, so if he can somehow raise the funds his wish will be granted with Scolari saying: ‘we have 26 players now.

‘If I lose one or two, it’s not a problem for me because I have a minimum 24 or 25.

‘I don’t know if some clubs want Shaun and I don’t know what the player thinks about offers from other teams but as I’ve said before, if I have 24 or 25 and three or four players for two positions, I am happy.

‘I have three or four players in this position – right wing, left wing. If the club sell one or two players more, it’s not a problem for me.’

Chelski paid £21m for him but know they will take a massive loss on him if sold – some reports claim he could go for us little as £8m, which if we could offload some of the players that we have been trying to we might be able to get somewhere near to that amount… But Villa and Citeh are also heavily ‘linked’, as are Sunderland and Newcastle now.

There is some talk he ‘could’ go out on loan, but we have our full quota of loan players now, and even if we did not it is my understanding that we could only have 1 player from Chelski anyway and we already have this in Ben Sahar. So to even have a chance of loaning Wright-Phillips we would need to sign the Israeli, like we did Jerome Thomas earlier in the week – but it is not known if Chelski will even sell him, how much he would cost or if we could even afford that!

In an ideal world we would bring him in on a season loan with the view to signing next summer, but things are much easier in theory than they are in practice… I do not have much doubt that he will leave Chelski before the transfer window closes, in January at the latest, and whilst it might seem unlikely at the moment I would not be surprised to see us pull something out of the bag to see him come here…
