Heading into the weekend friendly with Havant we again heard mutterings of Coventry interest in re-signing Carl Baker? He took too social media to deny an interest in returning to the Ricoh Arena.

Should Pompey sell him? No, as he’s ‘too important to offload’, according to the majority of those who voted in our recent poll.

What the poll asked – Carl Baker’s denied the Coventry rumours – what would you do?

How you voted – Keep him as too important to offload 55%
Sell him at the right price 36%
Hmm, not sure really 9%

What do I think? I’m not too bothered either way to be honest. I wouldn’t say I’m desperate for him to be sold be wouldn’t be too disappointed if we did – but only at the right price.

Yes, he’ll have a part to play this season but I’m not sure he’ll be as prominently involved in Kenny Jackett’s starting XI as he was Paul Cook’s last season when Baker was virtually one of Cook’s ‘untouchables.’

It might sound like I’m having a pop, at Cookie and/or Baker. I’m not. All I’m doing is stating what I think is fact from last season and want what’s best for Portsmouth Football Club. If keeping Baker is for the best it’s a no-brainer.

Meanwhile, Conor Chaplin announced himself nicely to Jackett on Saturday as he bagged a hat trick in the thrashing of Havant at Westleigh Park.

I know, I know, we cannot get too carried away – no disrespect to the Hawks – as this was only a friendly but any 15 minute treble has to see the boss sit up and take notice.

All being well we’ll see Chaplin back to his best? Do you think we will?

What the poll is asking – Will Chaplin get back to his best this season?

Options to vote – Yes, playing regularly will help
No, think he’s peaked already
Maybe, Havant was only a friendly of course
