Pompey’s run continued on Tuesday, more changes in personnel yet the outcome was the same – a win over Northampton with us playing some awesome football once again.

In particular in the 1st half, when we basically killed off the game…

A view that Andy Awford echoed with what he told the Pompey Site after the game: ‘three points is always pleasing, but I was delighted with the manner of the result.

‘We played some terrific stuff in the first half and were deservedly a couple of goals ahead at the interval.

‘We were very professional in the second half, closing the game out to secure the points.’

Once again AA ‘rung the changes’, making no fewer than 4 amendments to the side that beat Cambridge, one out of necessity of course, and that would have left a few raised eyebrows when the game kicked-off at Fratton…

They used to call Claudio Ranieri ‘the Tinkerman’ did they not, more recently Rafa Benitez was viewed as someone who changed it around but AA seems to trump them both!

Unfortunately, as is often the case these days, a shift in priority and an increased workload means that I cannot make midweek games and I could not make this – I was gutted before kick-off, but more so come half time and very envious when my cousin phones me, positively druelling at what he had seen for half of that half!

He conceded that he had a ‘what the f**k’ mentality when the teams were announced, with the changes, and the way we set out but it worked again with AA proving that his game plans are spot on and we have such a tight unit these days with it very much a united squad.

We have no ‘bad eggs’ anymore: ‘the game plan was executed perfectly, so once again I’ve got a lot of praise for everyone.

‘I left out three of the side that beat Cambridge on Saturday and the performance hasn’t dropped.

‘We’re really pleased with the squad we’ve got and when I do make changes there’s no moaning and groaning because everyone buys into what we’re doing.

‘We’ve created a group mentality here and have a fantastic team spirit without any bad eggs in the dressing room.’

Long may this continue eh, unity is what Portsmouth is all about so to see this on and off the pitch at Fratton is, well – my favourite word it seems these days – awesome!

What a refreshing change it is to have players (virtually all of them contracted to us, or on loan) that play for each other, the shirt and take pride in representing Portsmouth Football Club again, if they play or not, if they are in the squad, or not…

Best of all, we have a manager that ‘gets’ what PFC is all about, but better still looks as though he has a very good tactical brain and not only has a plan B but a plan C, I would not be surprised if he even had a plan D in his locker!

Roll on the weekend and Oxford, it will be an ‘interesting’ reunion with Appy…
