Pompey kick off the 2008/09 season with a trip to Chelski, followed the week later when Manyoo come to Fratton.

Harry Redknapp has admitted that it is not ideal, but you play the cards you are dealt: ‘it’s not an ideal start for us – it’s unbelievable really.

‘But you’ve got to play the big teams at some stage and we just have to get on with it and see how we go.’

Chelski then Manyoo, it could have been better, but it could have been a lot worse we could have had Arsenal and Liverpool on top of this too – but why should this be a bad thing guys? As he said, we do have to play them at some point so why not get it out of the way early.

Chelski will be under a new manager, who will most probably bring in plenty of new players – as talented as they will be they will be new players to a team, to a system and many new to the English game possibly?

Yep, we will sign some new players too but hopefully the nucleus of our side will stay in place and those that come in will only strengthen us so we will only build on what we have.

I know I am always positive, and always think that we will win ‘every game’ but should we go in with the right attitude – a positive one believing that we can win the game and not have the usual ‘its Chelski, we are not expected to get anything so if we can get something it will be a bonus’ then we could go to the Bridge and end that phenomenal home record they have.

Will we ever have a better chance of beating Chelski on their own patch? To be honest I do not think that we will…

As for Manyoo in our first game at Fratton we know they hate coming to our place at the best of times – what will be the 3rd meeting in less than a month between us could see us going for the treble over them already!

Bring it on I say – fear either? Nope. Expect too much from these games? Again nope, but why settle for too little…
