Appleton in Lawro out?

Nope, the ‘imminent’ arrival of would be new manager Michael Appleton is not linked with the ‘possible’ departure of Liam Lawrence, these just happen to be the ‘headlines’ today in the Pompey world…

Appleton has been ‘close’ for a few days now and is now said to be ‘on the verge’ of becoming our new manager – this, by all accounts, really is very close to being a done deal if it is not already.

I just wish it could be done and dusted and announced now.

Few, I would guess, would be surprised to see Steve Cotterill return to Pompey in the New Year to try and sign at least one player from us, right?

The Express today says that ‘Steve Cotterill wants to raid old club Portsmouth in a £1.5million swoop for midfielder Liam Lawrence in the new year.’

Well, and I might be wrong, but I have to say that if Forest offered us £1.5m for him I think we should take it – not only would we get decent money but we would also remove a wage circa £20,000 off the wage bill too!

Problem is I am not convinced that Forest would…

A) Pay that sort of money for Lawro
B) Pay him those sort of wages

…so, as things stand I am not convinced this would happen, that is not to say that I do not think that Cotterill would not want it to happen or Lawro would not be keen on making such a move.

Lets just see what the New Year brings first though, and in those months between what the new manager makes of Lawro, how they get on and just how much of a 1st team regular he feels he should be?
