Due to the time it is taking for due diligence to be completed we appear to have missed out on a transfer target then with Madrid ‘nipping in’ ahead of us to seemingly be on the verge of prising Cristiano Ronaldo away from Old Trafford after Manyoo accepted a world record £80m offer for the Portuguese ponce!
£80m for one player, that amount of money would buy us, and almost buy Newcastle – so it is an obscene amount…
Was it Manyoo’s owners that decided to cash in, or has Sir Alex finally had enough of him and his constant whinging about wanting to join Madrid? Past history proves that the old Scot is no respecter of reputations no matter who you are and ‘how important’ you are, if you cross him, or the club, he is not afraid to make you pay the price!
Clearly this is an offer that Manyoo could not refuse, ok he ‘might’ be classed as the best player in the world and is still a world-class footballer at the very, very height of his game but I seriously doubt that he will achieve the heights that he did the season before last again – the one where he scored 40-odd goals. Yep, still a world-class talent and will be for the next decade I guess, but cashing in when they have is ‘sound’ business methinks…
Although allowing any club be able to cough up £59m one week for Kaka and then £80m the next for Ronaldo is not right though is it?
Clubs, and any club even if this was Pompey, should not be allowed to spend that kind of money as clearly this is not coming from finances they have this is purely going to add to the millions that the Spanish club are already in debt – and if anyone can tell me that Madrid just ‘happened’ to have £140m ‘lying around’, without the millions in wages on top, to offer from ‘the coffers’ then I think you are showing us a liar!
Yep, all clubs are in debt, well most, but depending on the clubs size and its history far too many are allowed to build up debts of astronomical proportions and can carry on being allowed to due to this name as it is known that they will always generate revenue to enable repayments to be met on arrangements in place.
That in itself is not right is it, as look at clubs with a ‘lesser history’ that are ‘punished’ for such actions when they are found out, that does not make them any less of a club so the fans of that club hurt as much, arguably more so as on the whole the vast majority of these fans are genuine and loyal and have that true affinity with the club in question – far to many ‘supporters’ of the likes of Madrid, Manyoo, Liverpool, Chelski, Arsenal, Milan, Barcelona and so on cannot seriously say they have that affinity can they, not that I am tarring all with the same brush mind…
Ok, clubs – those running them and not the fans – only have themselves to blame if they get into a financial mess that they cannot get out of, but this whole ‘one rule for them and another for the rest’ that is given to ‘the giants’ of the game is wrong, chasing the dream of ‘being them’ and competing with them is what forces the hand of so many and they then find it hard ‘to say no’, as we ourselves found… All the time the giants are allowed to keep doing what they do, whilst keeping millions and millions in debt it is never going to help football, but then again it will take a brave man or woman to stand up to these clubs – and lets face it whilst these continue to make copious amounts for the ‘money men’ of football they do not give a toss do they, until they stop serving their purpose the gravy train will continue to be ridden and this will continue to be allowed, but how does this make football better for all?
Of course, maybe – although unlikely – we could one day become one of these ‘free spending’ clubs but the new ‘fit and proper’ ruling, in my understanding, is in place to ensure that we are not left up s**t creek right? I find it hard to see how ‘some’ of the bigger boys would now pass these tests, but they are a law to themselves and are arguably bigger than the game anyway and will always be ok as the name will see them live on, with someone waiting to come in for them in their hour of need – there is no ‘level’ playing field anymore and football is just not football like it used to be, but then again times change I guess…
