Tony Adams has officially been confirmed as the new Pompey manager, with this revealed in a press conference a few minutes ago.
Lets not kid ourselves most of the names ‘linked’ were just fairytale names, they would not come here and to be honest I would not want them – they would sod off at the first sign of interest from someone else. ‘If’ Adams does the job then I know where he will end up, and I am happy with that he has made no secret that he wants to return to Arsenal so if he gets this then we sure as hell know he would have been successful with us!
Fat Sam did not appeal to me at all, yep I know he has experience but we would have no chance of keeping the players that we have and half of them would not even fit into his style of playing… Alan Curbishley, despite his experience, for me would offer nothing more than the untried and unproven Adams… Others, apart from the unrealistic just did nothing for me…
Adams offers us that stability and continuity, for me that is worth much more than most other things – his appointment also gives us a better chance of keeping players that we had and I still think gives us the chance to carry on building what we had done, which could have, and still might, go further!
Adams and Joe Jordan almost certainly did the training at the club so how much involvement in things on that side Harry Redknapp had only they know – he must have surely learnt things from him as well to add to his own ideas.
The former England man travelled Europe to fine-tune his knowledge of the game, which was already pretty broad due to his standing in the game as a player and the quality he had. Yep, things went belly up with Wycombe, but that does not mean that he is a poor manager – look at it this way, the players he worked with just might not have been capable of doing what he wanted.
Clearly the ability to attract players is something that looks like being his biggest problem, but Adams is a name known throughout football and when all is said and done if we are doing well players will come here anyway as players will go where the going is good! People knock him, and so do I, sometimes rightly others a bit unfairly but lets not underestimate the part that Peter Storrie plays in attracting players as well and the scouts that we have, if we can keep those in place things are not all as doomy and gloomy as it might have seemed.
Lets give the fella a chance, and if we get stuffed at Anfield tomorrow if anyone comes out with the rubbish such as ‘see it is not working’ let me just redirect you to the amount of times we have been turned over at Anfield, Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge and Highbury/The Emirates over the years under twitchy before casting your vote – with or without him does anyone really expect us to get a result against the inform team in this country. Lets not write the game off – as we used to every time, but lets not judge him on that result, spanking or not!
People think he will be a ‘yes man’, but that is not the nature of the man and I do not believe that he will let it be that way, and why should he.
I am backing him, and to be fair I think the vast majority are as well – give the fella a chance, it ‘might’ not go well, but why think that way why not think positively and think it will. A good, honest, genuine and better still English manager is something that I am happy with and think is the most realistic and logically thing we could and should have done.
