A Man City point of view – Part 1

What made you support Man City mate?
City born and bred. I come from Manchester and was born into a large family of blues. It was inevitable I’d support them and glad I had it forced upon me; just as I have done to my lad. It’s a concept lost on our neighbours who think the only requirement for allegiance is following the biggest and ugliest just because they win things.

Are you happy with how your season is going so far?
Overjoyed. I expected things to improve from last season but couldn’t have predicted just how much they have done. Now if only we could carry our home form on our travels?

The cynical would say that Sven only went to City because you had money, would you agree – either way how do you think he is doing?
Good managers will only go where there is money. If people wish to be cynical about it so be it but I can’t imagine any of the top club managers pitching up at a club where they couldn’t build a side. All cynicism aside he is doing a great job. Considering the balls up Pearce made of things a £40 million net spend was the minimum requirement. What shouldn’t be understated is that despite the foreigners he’s bought he is still giving youth its chance. Last time out we fielded Richards, Johnson, Ireland and Hart that have come through the ranks. Not many top-flight clubs can claim that on a regular basis.

How do you rate his signings so far?
There is only really Bianchi that is looking a mistake but I still expect him to deliver if he can settle in Manchester. The rest have all added something to the squad. Not bad after the pre season criticism he took for picking up players from videos.

Will he need more in January – and will he get them?
For me he needs at least one, but probably two, forwards, a right winger and a keeper. Will he get them? January tends to be over inflated time in the market but I’d expect at least two new signings.

Who is the City danger man that Pompey should watch?
Elano. Sheer class. Has taken many teams apart already with his classy style of play.

How do you reckon City will go this season?
I still will be happy with top ten but it’s hard to stop yourself believing in more when you sit third in the league and have a home quarter final in the Carling Cup to come.

What about Pompey?
They have surprised me and seem to be playing some good football. As I write you sit fifth. Who would have had this as fifth v third going into the weekend? Seems Sky picked a good one.

If you could take any Pompey player from our squad and put him in yours, who would it be and why?
Benjani for his goals.

Go on – who is going to win, Pompey or Man City?
Really tough game for both sides so I’ll sit on the fence for a draw. Don’t expect us to show our Chelsea form, that was a one off as two clean sheets since have shown.
