The future of Pompey, or at least hopefully the future of Pompey, has taken another step forward.
As it stands Andy Awford is only here until the summer – although I suspect that it will be a longer-term appointment – although the first moves forward have been made with 9 U16 players offered 2-year scholarship deals.
These are all local(ish) players, with 3 of them from Portsmouth including Nick Awford, a relative of Andy’s perhaps?

Nine Offered Scholarships
Pompey have offered two-year scholarships to nine under-16 players.
The scholarship programme will see the youngsters start full-time at Fratton Park in July.
The club have offered scholarships to: Tom Fry, Liam Triggs, Jack Maloney, Nick Awford, Josh Warren, Stuart Moore, Kane Cook, George Branford and Adam Webster.
Fry, a goalkeeper, Warren, a defender, and Awford, a midfielder, are all from Portsmouth. Triggs (defender), Maloney (forward) and Moore (goalkeeper) come from the Isle of Wight. Cook is a midfielder from Basingstoke, Webster a defender from Chichester and Branford a midfielder from Ashington in West Sussex.
Blues academy manager Andy Awford said: “All the boys have done very well to get this far and we’re looking forward to seeing how they adapt to full-time training.”
