With Pompey nothing, or much, is ever cut or dried, black or white or basically just straight forward and simple – although Liam Lawrence’s move to Fratton is…

Ok, perhaps it is not, or was not but in all honesty I really am amazed – even with our track record – why there is so much concern about his loan move becoming a permanent one?

A deal was agreed with Stoke, that took Marc Wilson to The Britannia for money with Lawrence – and of course Dave Kitson – coming our way.

All the paperwork, or at least the deal, has been agreed all that needs to be done is the formality of ‘that’ missing paperwork, that needed to go through on deadline day but did not for whatever reason, to go through.

Literally everything is done and dusted, we just need the transfer window to open again and it is job done!

Lawrence himself, as he told The News, has no doubts about this going through, in fact he has said that we will not get rid of him that easily: ‘people keep questioning me about whether I am signing in January. Obviously, because I am still classed as a loan, no-one knows what is going on.

‘But I have signed and as soon as the clock ticks over on 1 January, I will be permanent. I have already signed the papers.

‘There’s a bit of confusion because of the whole loan thing and how many months that lasts for. It’s all a bit of a pain in the backside. I keep saying to people ‘I am staying here, there is nothing to worry about’.

‘It is all done and dusted. I’m enjoying it at Portsmouth, my head has not been turned by anything.

‘I am happy here. My contract is for three-and-a-half years so you’ll just have to put up with me for a while longer.’

It is that simple really…

Lawrence will become a permanent Pompey player in January, that is a near certainty – the ‘rumours’ that he, and others, will be flogged will then of course come on in force, we then just have to see exactly what does happen!
