Matty Taylor is a name often linked with other clubs, as has been the case again throughout this summer. The fact that he has allegedly been told ‘he cannot be guaranteed a first team place’ is the latest reason for him to leave Fratton.

Pompey are taking up a fair few column inches in the media today, the mail on Sunday in particular – most of which will be saved for the ‘Pompey Chimes’ news round up – but this, along with the Andrew Cole article proved too tasty for me to overlook.

There are very few players that should be ‘untouchable’ – in the words of Jose Mourinho – in any first team but we all know that certain players are almost just that, but once you start handing out cast iron assurances that players will be a first choice pick you can be in trouble in some instances.

With the amount of games that will be played, not to mention the size of the squad we have, a lot of players will be used. Competition for places is healthy and is needed for any club to succeed, with my thinking being that most players accept this these days.

My thinking would be that Taylor would not be demanding a starting place anyway – and he would not need to, as he will play as much as most others this season anyway. But should this ever become the case, as much as I do like him I do not like the demanding of a place no matter who they are.

PLAY UP POMPEY!
