Who will fill the ‘long’ boots of Peter Crouch?

He is back, Pompey Malta on who he feels the man should be to fill the void left by Crouch. This man, Benjani.

Since Tottenham’s manager and their little striker showed interest, it seems that Crouch is off before we play Fulham, in few weeks time. This leaves Pompey without a top class striker, as I am assuming that Kanu, Nugent and Utaka cannot fit this description. However, someone has to come in instead. And who will that be?

I am 100% sure, like most of the fans and himself, that Benjani will be back to Fratton, as recently, Hull declared that they do not have any interest in the Pompey Hero. Hughes is willing to offload him, and it seems more and more that Benji needs a club to play for. And that will be Portsmouth, in which will be the first signing of the new era. Do I like this idea? More than I like the idea that I am a Pompey fan. But why? Here I will list some of the positives why Benjani is able to fill the ‘long’ boots of Peter Crouch.

1 – It is obvious, that this coming season we need players who really are committed to the Pompey cause. And Benjani, will be highlighting this requirement.

2 – It is obvious, that this coming season we need a quality striker that has experience in the Premier League with a goal scoring record on his CV, that can play upfront either in a 442 or a 451 formation. Benjani, has done this before, and at Pompey.

3 – It is obvious, that this coming season we need something, or someone that will lift us the fans, giving us some optimism and faith. Benjani, can do that; whenever he scores, he simply says: “I love you, I love you and I love you all” Does he mean that? I am very positive about this too. Isn’t that a great feeling for a fan?

On the negative side of things, Benjani had some injuries lately, but who doesn’t? Bringing Benjani back is very similar to Manchester signing Owen – both are players who had horrible seasons, want to make that up, commit themselves, and above all, prove their worth to their previous managers/critics who lost faith in them. It is a gamble, true, but for a mere £2, I would get him in straight away.

Another striker will be needed, but before we ever think of anyone else, we have to bring back Benjani. Most will not agree with this article, but Benjani deserves a home, his home, and that is somewhere alongside the South Coast.
