As the vultures circle looking to pick the flesh off the Pompey carcass Appy ‘insists’ that he does not have to sell any of his ‘prized assets’ nor does he want to.

He confirmed that a joint bid for both Jason Pearce and Joel Ward had come in from Ipswich but this was rejected: ‘I am aware a bid has gone in for Joel and Jason but it is a million miles away from their true value to us. I don’t think there was much of a discussion.

‘It has been turned down and that`s where I am with that.

‘If Ipswich want to continue and look to pursue that further it is down to them. But as far as we are concerned we want young, talented footballers such as Joel and Jason at this club.’

I think the next section of what Appy says is the ‘key area’ really if he is given the opportunity to keep them and have them as a part of our future this is what he wants…

Like I say the ‘if’ part is the key part really!

Strengthening the squad is what he wants but the harsh reality is we are rapidly closing in on the time when there will be little option but to ‘offload’ those we might not want to out of necessity: ‘if I am given the opportunity, Jason and Joel will play a big part in our future.

‘I want to strengthen this squad, the last thing I want to do is sell players like that. No way.

‘If anyone was to leave it would be one of the more experienced players rather than the young ones.

‘No-one has picked up the phone to me and said we have to accept offers.

‘That is how it stands today – until somebody tells me differently tomorrow. Ipswich’s offer was not acceptable and we move on.’

That would be my biggest concern Appy, someone telling you differently tomorrow or the day after that so and so will be moving on…

These comments come in the midst of fresh ‘speculation’ that Stephen Henderson is also gaining interest, this time from premier league outfit Newcastle.

Lets just hope that whatever takeover is going to happen, if it will, is going to happen ASAP!

Even if this might see us faced with a ‘bumpy ride’ again it might at least give us a fighting chance of keeping some players and looking to regroup and rebuild, if this does not happen very soon though the reality is that the seams will unravel pretty quickly…
