Earlier in the week TruePompeyBlue called for you to help make David James the SKY Sports goalkeeper of the year – sadly this failed.

Now I call for your help as another Pompey player is in the running for defender of the year, this man is Linvoy Primus – or Optimus Primus as I more affectionately name him, a tag Chris Stanton also gave him in his review of Primus’ season when he said.

‘Optimus Primus transformed Portsmouth’s defence in tandem with Sol Campbell, also a robot in disguise judging by the latter’s final season at Arsenal. A late developer at Premiership level, man mountain Linvoy excelled in 2006/07, as Pompey narrowly missed out on claiming a place in Europe. The Jamaican stopper also enjoyed the joint highest overall skysports.com rating (7.0) of any defender.’

Optimus will not become the defender of the year, but what a great season he has had – for him to gain recognition from SKY alone shows just how good it was – the arrival of Sol Campbell unquestionably helped him but he was, and is still one of the best defenders around regardless.

Primus is currently languishing at the back of the field – but ahead of Gary Neville – but help him to gain more of the vote by clicking here and voting.

PLAY UP POMPEY!
