Pompey secured a win over Grimsby in league two on Tuesday.

I don’t think there’s much doubt Pompey deserved to beat Grimsby on Tuesday but 4-0 was perhaps a little harsh on the Mariners to be honest.

Fortune was definitely with Pompey for the opener from Kyle Bennett with a heavy deflection looping his effort it. Danny Rose then fired in from distance too – both examples of scoring if you have a go. The points were wrapped up before half time when Carl Baker finished off a fine team move.

Seconds into the 2nd half Kal Naismith followed up another effort from distance to round off the 4-0 win.

These three points saw Pompey open up a six point advantage over the play-off pack and closed the gap on Plymouth – we’re coming for you Argyle – to four points as the Blues seek a potentially runners up spot to Doncaster.
