John Utaka is almost ready to get his Pompey career underway after getting his work permit through.

And from what he has said on the Pompey Site I cannot wait for him to get started, as much as he cannot wait himself ‘I’ve always said that I wanted to play in the Premier League, so I am delighted to be here.

‘My main goal this season now is to have a good season. My effort, and our effort as a team, will be to take Pompey to the top’.

He will not be able to play against Havant tonight – although Gary O’Neil could, after returning from injury – or Eastleigh tomorrow, but should have the formalities completed in time to fly out with the squad on Saturday as we head off to Asia.

It is then hoped, if not expected, that Utaka will be able to play some part of the Barclays Asia Trophy, which starts next Tuesday with our match against Fulham.
