Our first loan signing confirmed? Well jim4pompey has some thoughts on this.

Is this the first confirmed signing of the January transfer window for Pompey?

Sky Sports are reporting that Quincy Owusu-Abeyie from Spartak Moscow has joined on loan until the end of the season. The former Arsenal forward has had loan spells with the likes of Spanish outfit Celta Vigo, Birmingham and Cardiff in the past few years.

Following exerts from Wiki: “Quincy James Owusu-Abeyie (born 15 April 1986), known occasionally simply by his first name “Quincy”, is a Ghanaian-Dutch footballer who plays as a winger for Spartak Moscow. He played international football for his native Netherlands at youth level, but in 2007 requested to become eligible to represent Ghana instead. FIFA approved his request on January 10, 2008, just ahead of the 2008 African Cup of Nations.”

He is a product of the Ajax youth academy (9 years) before joining the Liam Brady set-up at arsenal and making his full debut for the club. Currently 23, he is listed as a striker or left-mid.

As a striker he has been considerably less than prolific but if Grant wants to play O’Hara more in the middle then there is a necessity for a left wing. (Stop some of you complaining about a lack of width at any rate).

Current gossip in summary:

INs: Quincy Owusu-Abeyie (Spartak) on loan
Jamie O’Hara (Tottenham) – on loan
Emad Moteab (Al Ahly) – on loan (option to buy)
Joey Barton (Newcastle) – on loan

OUTs: Nugent to Burnley (£3m)
James to Stoke (Loan)
Kaboul to various (£10m)
CONFIRMED? Williamson to Newcastle/ Watford (£2m)
Wilson to Celtic (unknown)
Mullins to various (unknown)
Dindane (currently on loan) to Birmingham
Belhadj to various (unknown)
Hassan Yebda (currently on loan) to AC/ Inter Milan
Kevin Prince Boateng to Sunderland (unknown)
Frederic Piquionne (currently on loan) to Everton

  • He’s got pace, I’ll give him that. Not sure on his finishing but it all depends on what Avraham wants to do with him.

  • in summary for those who dont want to link:
Răzvan Cociş (born 19 February 1883 in Cluj-Napoca) is a Romanian footballer. He currently plays for English club Portsmouth in the Premier League. He is usually an Attacking Viking, but can play in a variety of other midfield positions as well as up-front. He is also well known for his close control and his love of sheep shearing.

CHIX/ RUG – could you amend latest transfer story to include him

  • i wonder if we have negotiated in his contract that his pay day is likely to be a lucky dip in the month

  • we will save the amendment for the next one jim 🙂

i would imagine that Quincy has been signed to offer us more width – i hope! if we add that romanian guy that gives us width, naturally, on both flanks doesnt it as a 4-5-1, 4-3-3 or a 4-4-2 if they do their defensive duties!

  • The edit on the Cocis entry made me chuckle – “He has recently signed a 1 year deal with broke and near bankrupt Portsmouth, but probably won’t ever play a game for them as the Chief Executive will no doubt have negotiated a deal that means they have to pay his Grandmother’s cat ?2 million upon his first appearance. Not that the Chief Executive will take the blame just like he had zero responsibility for helping to run the club into the ground. No, it wasn’t me guv, honest…. When it rains Răzvan Cociş doesn’t get wet, the rain gets Răzvan Cociş”

  • Reading this makes me feel that he’ll fit in just right down here then!

    Personal life

Owusu-Abeyie was arrested after up to five men began brawling in a London club, Café Royal following the Professional Footballers’ Association Player Awards at 3am on 25 April 2005. Officers were called at about 03:00 BST where they found a man with serious head injuries. However, the police did not press any charges against Owusu-Abeyie and cleared him of any involvement in the incident.[48] He is the cousin of English rapper Sway DaSafo

  • cheese monkey I have just updated Wikipedia!! I haave already written a piece for Toast about Quincy because I gathered he had signed a pre-contract agreement sometime ago along with Cocis.

  • I saw this guy in Spartak. He have crazy speed, but know nothing what doing with ball.Honestly he’s stupid player, but in this situation it’s better then nothing.

  • at least he has pace – dindane is hardly the quickest guy in the world. And tha Ajax acadamy is VERY good, and for Wenger to then pick him up from that, he must have had a lot of potential. He’s still youngish too – maybe now is when he can prove to the world how good he is!

  • Hope we get moteab , o’hara , miguel vitor and cocis. Get these and we will stay up 😉 BELIEVE !!!!

  • QOA is not really an inspiring transfer, however i said i would not bemoan any signing in our current situation. I also have more faith in Avram’s choice and abillity to attract players than PH-Williamson for all the money he had, on the recomendation of another new signing, only never to play him because you he realised he was no better than he already had…pleb!
I have to agree with f/casual about the players he mentions

  • but will Granty play him in centre midfield? Perhaps AG’s English dictionary doesn’t have the page with “winger” on it

  • hammersmithblue

I think in Grant’s dictionary does word “winger” even words like “striker” and “playmaker”,but absent only one word – “money” 🙂
