I have just got back home (Saturday night) after a long adventure to Barnsley today.
First thanks to PompeyMart for letting me know about a lovely little pub in Rotherham that I would never have found in a million years, but was cracking.
Today we saw far fewer fans than at Blackpool, but the very same spirit. The away crowd is more or less 100% die hards, so no trouble with getting the noise going. It was relentless – what I was expecting at Fratton on Tuesday. Song of the day was:
“Minus 10? Who gives a f**k?
We’re super Pompey & we’re staying up!”
The team, however, looked leggy again. I know we have a small squad, but should they look that tired?
Barnsley had a purple patch in the first 15 mins, but really didn’t look that much better than us.
There were some good performances:
Ward shaking off a nasty looking injury to see out the game
Henderson had a cracking save
On the downside:
Futacs’ early promise a few games back has vanished. Offered nothing today
TBH was nothing like he has been of late
Eric looks exhausted
But special mention goes to…
Kitson. Well doe mate. Your team is down to the bare bones, so you get yourself off with two stupid challenges. When on a yellow card, watch yourself. Don’t go in like that. So bravo – you leave your remaining team mates to battle out the rest of the game without you. Didn’t even clap the fans as he trudged to the tunnel.
I don’t know what to suggest. Should Appy give them a few days off? Light training? I don’t know, but the team just looks knackered.
Bad to see us in the bottom 3, but I still think we are way better than those teams around us. However, we can’t afford to leave it too late.
