If the comments from Trevor Birch in The News today are correct Pompey are closing in on reducing the senior number to just two!

Somewhat surprisingly perhaps Dave Kitson does not look like he will be the one to turn out the light, as he is not going to be the last senior player to move on…

‘Talking and talking sensible’ has been taken place with the club and his agent with a deal to terminate his contract, with it said that we should ‘view the current situation with Dave Kitson as good news.’

Perhaps, even if it seems like it will be the case, Kitson will not be the next to go but Birch feels confident enough to say that he will not be the last: ‘I can say it certainly won’t be Dave Kitson who will be the last man.’

I will not be at all disappointed to see Kitson leave, not in the least, but if he can agree a compromise deal – a sensible one at that – to walk away from the club without another one lined up then I must say hats off to the guy!

As for the other two seniors contracted to the club The News claims that Tal Ben Haim has: ‘held conversations with prospective owners, Portpin’s Balram Chainrai and Levi Kushnir, in an attempt to resolve his personal situation…’

Liam Lawrence, well apparently interest in him remains but who this is isn’t know, but former loanee club Cardiff are ‘monitoring the situation’ with it hoped a deal with whatever club can be ‘thrashed out this week’.
