The Herminator has accepted the new 1-year contract offered to him last week so will remain a Pompey player again next season, hurrah.

He told Morgunbladid, an Icelandic paper, that staying was always likely: ‘me signing with Portsmouth again was always going to happen even though I had many other options.

‘Me and my family feel great in this place, we have been there for two fun years and I think I have plenty more in me to play in the Premier League and that had a lot to say in this decision.’

‘Reported’ offers have come in from several championship sides, along with some premier league interest and offers from both Glasgow clubs but he opted to stay with us: ‘Middlesbrough showed me most interest and also Celtic and Rangers but that did not go as far.

‘Portsmouth promised me, as far as they could, that they want to strengthen the team for next season and that their goal is to keep doing well in the Premier League.’

The Herminator, despite the fact that he is pushing 35-years-old and is getting slower, has an infectious personality so can only be a good player to have about the squad next season so I am more than happy to see him commit for another year and to be fair he still possesses some quality and will never give anything less than 100%!

Nice one Hermann, hopefully you will not end up being pushed out of the squad and regret not taking up the options offered to you…
