‘The chief’ is ready to mount his challenge

Kanu, who was already ‘the king’ is now the self-proclaimed ‘chief’, made his return from injury in the reserves this week – marking this with a goal and he has told sky sports that he is ready to challenge Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch for a place in the side: ‘I am on the comeback trail, I am feeling fine.

‘I am not at 100 per cent yet, but scoring last Monday was fantastic and I am delighted to play.

‘I love to be on the field and now I have to try and get in the team.

‘The strikers did well last week at Everton, but I will let them know that the chief is back and ready to challenge them.

‘There is a good spirit in the camp and we are ready to write more good things in the Pompey sports book.’

The Nigerian is a legend and ‘if’ used in the right way is most definitely worth having around for another year – but lets be honest he, or anyone else for that matter is not going to challenge the England strikers for a starting place regularly are they? If fit, right or wrong, these two are going to be Harry Redknapp’s first pick more often than not…

Kanu should be – and hopefully – will be used as an impact sub, as this will best utilise his talent these days.

I like his words and hope that he can help us ‘write more good things in the Pompey sports book’, but come January if fit – is he ever! – if he is not getting much of a look-in I am not sure how willing he will be to carry on fighting for this place…

PLAY UP POMPEY!
