Ben Thatcher has made an attempt to cool the hate directed at him from Pompey fans, ahead of his arrival on the South Coast this Saturday, by making an apology.

Thatcher said;

‘I’m ashamed of what I did. It was a really low moment.

‘I was given an eight-game ban and just got my head down and trained hard every day. I just tried to show a good attitude to try to get something positive from a bad time.

‘It was a difficult time and it’s just good to be back playing; it’s all water under the bridge now.’

Not sure if Pompey fans will see it as water under the bridge but one things for sure; if Pompey players need motivation for this game then watch that tackle before.

The player continued;

‘Bar that one stupid challenge my disciplinary record over the past few seasons hasn’t been bad at all – and I’ve assured Alan Pardew that nothing like that will happen again.

Police will not step up security for the game, claiming that their existing standard policing operation will be sufficient enough.
