Bradford City P Pompey P

Match postponed due to public safety issues. This severe weather came at the same time as the Premier League are discussing the possibility of introducing a winter break but when would they have the interval?

It has been suggested that the best time for the break would be immediately after the Christmas holidays to allow overpaid players a week or longer lying on the sun or is it to avoid fans having to travel in bad weather?

Whatever it will happen if the big clubs want it and moving the FA Cup fifth round to midweek only helps facilitate the sabbatical for top clubs and players. Never any thought given to fans of course proved by some of the recent fixture changes to allow games to be televised whether or not the game falls into a regular spot.

Next week

Pompey entertain Gillingham at Fratton Park next Saturday.

The Gills have yet to win at God`s green acre having lost on twelve of their previous sixteen visits. The last two games have been single goal wins for Pompey in 2005 in the FA Cup when Yakubu scored and in 2003 a Division One game was won by Arjan De Zeeuw.

Although there have not been many meetings the fixture dates back to November 1920!

Try before you buy

Kenny has been using this policy in efforts to revamp his squad but what do we think of his loanees?

The major problem is that most of them have ended up injured and out for long spells or worse still the season particularly the left backs Tareiq Holmes-Dennis and Damien McCrory who played fewer than four games between them. Stephen Henderson managed just eighty minutes. Others such as Connor Ronan, Sylvain Deslandes and Anton Wilkes have only had a short stint to date and the jury is still out on their potential.

That leaves two to assess.

1. Stuart O`Keefe – the midfield player looked the part until picking up an injury. He looked a combative type who Pompey fans love and might form a good partnership alongside Danny Rose when (hopefully) he recovers from his broken leg.
Personally I would say he is worth a punt and offers more than Ben Close and Adam May in the engine room.
2. Matty Kennedy – wide man also on loan from Cardiff City. He started the season well and got the winner at Gillingham. However, he has of late been in and out of the side spending more time warming the bench that taking on full backs. Like a lot of wide players at this level lacks consistency. Is he better than Kyle Bennett or Milan Lalkovic who have both recently been released?

What are your views on these two and the loans policy?

Lastly

An appeal from Phil at Pompeyrama who would like to attach a Pompey team pic to each season.

‘Have you any old programs or resources that would have a squad photo from the following seasons:

2001-02
2002-03
2003-04
2004-05
2005-06
2006-07
2007-08
2008-09
2009-10`

If you have contact me using the link at the top of the page under Site Journalists and I will pass them on. We must do all we can to help Phil with his great efforts.
