With Glen Johnson, now very much seemingly on his way, it now seems we are in desperate need for a much needed quality right back to replace him.

Step up Younes Kaboul!

I love this guy, his passion, determination, no frills football is perfect for replacing Jonno.

He played there in a few games towards the end of last term, and shone. He had a brilliant ability to surge down the flank, much like Johnson and deliver some nice balls in and can score a goal!

He is obviously much bigger than Johnson yet doesn’t lack the speed, and can tackle harder. I think he may even be a better player than Johnson given a whole season like Jonno was.

Much cheaper, wiser and easier option than hunting down for someone new. Of course we would need a back up, but then again we need a whole new team
it seems, I’m just talking about the main man, Kaboul! 🙂

Thoughts on this???

  • it is right that kaboul did come in and do a job, he is strong, powerful and got forward well – with his defensive qualities better than johnson’s, who is no slouch of course…
that said i really do not think that kaboul is a long-term right back – i would even say i think he will be ‘wasted’ at right back, he is the big, powerful, commanding central defender we will need next season. he has leadership qualities for me, can play football so will do this from the back but would be better suited to a central defender slot…
if we did not buy in then i would have marc wilson and martin cranie as the right back options, we also have that kid, is it hurst that we signed from west brom – altho is he a left back? i cannot remember…
so, like i say, nice idea but not a right back for me.

  • passion, determination… yes, he’s a good player. But don’t we need him at centre back, given than sol campbell is probably going to leave?

  • is sol going to leave tho? i totally expected this, but maybe not – i still think distin could, but would happily have kaboul alongside either sol or distin tbh…

  • well, even if sol doesn’t leave, he won’t be able to play every game, and probably won’t be able to play the full 90minutes that often…

  • if anyone can step into Johnson’s boots, it’s Kaboul. I’ve generally been quite impressed with him, so I’m happy for him to get shoved in there.

  • What about Martin Cranie?? He’s a regular England U21 so must be quite good and surelyy deserves a chance??

  • When Kaboul left Spurs, plenty of them were happy to see the back of him, but some prophecied that he would be back to bite them on the bum. Especially, they said, with Sol Campbell and Tony Adams there to coach him. Unfortunately, TA has gone and so I hope Sol will stay another year and Kaboul will take on board all Campbell has to teach him. He still seems young but I think he is class and will do for me!

  • yep, its cranie or probably even wilson for me aswell – not going to go over my kaboul thoughts again, just view them above…

  • i thought he showed good promise towards the end of the season. However, we still need cover if we lose Johnno

  • We could be without an entire back four, so Kaboul could cover a few positions, just hope he stays fit for long enough!

  • yes,i think i aggree with a whole season in that position he would become an amazing player and possibly better glen. tot sighed him for 6 million cos he looked so good but didnt perform. but i think he has matured and is now a strong pacey controled player. i can’t see who else could posibly replace glen without spending over the odds.

  • And we were linked with tyrone mears today the derby rb don,t alot about him said to be 750.000 deal. dont think he could be any sort of replacement to glen really.

  • I see YK as a good central defender not a right back; some of spurs were pleased to see him go but that is because he was outspoken about that clubs bahaviour to Jol. You don’t here too many complaints from him here just good maximum effort football; he will need to cut out some of the silly errors and lash outs if he is to go from good to great

  • I agree we need Kaboul to be a central defender next season – the right back slot is going to be hard to fill, we can’t expect to replace Johnno with anyone as good – but what about Micah Richards?

  • Agree with most Kaboul is a central defender, but can cover, Wilson is really center mid, but also can cover, Crainie plays right back although still young, may have a future as a center back too

  • Tracy Micah Richards Citeah were said to be willing to let him go to try & get Lescott so could be worth a punt also plays center or right.

  • I can’t see wilson making it as a premiership central midfielder to be honest. He COULD make it at right back, as he showed that he is very good at crossing. and central defence… hmmm…
