SOL TO SEE OUT HIS DAYS IN THE SUN?
Although such a move was always unlikely, any lingering hope Harry Redknapp may have had of signing his new assistant, Tony Adams` former defensive partner Sol Campbell have all but ended, with the England International admitting that he would like to ply his trade overseas.
Campbell, who still had a year to go on his Arsenal deal, had his contract terminated by mutual consent shortly after the World Cup Final in Germany told the News of the World,
‘I have walked away with absolutely nothing in place. All I know is that I want to play, in fact I need to play.”
‘Not for the money – I’m lucky I don’t need the money – but I do need this fresh challenge and I’m going all out to get it.”
‘I want to kick-start my career again and take my football into a new realm and playing abroad will do that.”
‘It’s something I have dreamt about since I was a boy. I have nothing left to prove in England but it would be special if I could now go to the continent and make a major statement in a foreign league too”
This latest development will not be too much of a setback for the club, as although Campbell`s best days are probably behind him, and the quality, experience and knowledge he would have brought with him to the South Coast would have proved priceless, not many really believed such a move would come to fruition, latest developments merely settle the argument.
