Sol Campbell, now of course one of only two players out-of-contract that we want to keep, appears to have ‘hinted’ to sky sports news that his future does indeed lie away from Pompey?

The 34-year-old has often hit out at the way Pompey is run and at the poor ‘organisation’ of the club – to be fair in many ways he is right but he also has to remember exactly who we are, we are not a true giant like Arsenal – which is something he has done again, giving an ‘indication’ that his future is actually elsewhere: ‘with Portsmouth they have to organise themselves and there’s a lot of things happening there.

‘I want to make the right choice. In the next two to three years I want to be in the right situation.

‘The chairman, the manager and people like that, I like them to be really close together to move the club on. At the moment with Portsmouth it just seems there’re a lot of things in the background.

‘It may resolve itself, I don’t know, but for me, as a player, I want to be in the right environment. For at least the next two years, the right environment to be successful.’

I have often said if Sol is ‘happy in mind he is often happy full stop’, if he is not mentally right – and happy with his surroundings – he has often gone badly off the boil in recent years…

To be fair he was a rock for us in the second half of last season and showed true professionalism, with quality showing through a fair amount too, but from the looks of things it appears that his time on the South Coast is up?

He says that: ‘there’s a few options out there. I’m out of contract and I’m going to listen to different offers.’

If he decides to stay, then I still think this is going to be a good thing for us, but if he goes so be it – he would leave with my thanks and best wishes.
