‘Rumours’ that Tommy Smith’s £1.5m move to QPR had not gone through on time had been going around long before news, and confirmation, that Liam Lawrence’s move to Pompey had not gone either…

Well, this evening has seen Pompey confirm – on The Pompey Site – that this deal did indeed fail to go through on time.

A statement said: ‘the Football League have rejected the permanent transfer of Tommy Smith from Pompey to QPR due to administrative issues outside the Blues’ control.

‘The two clubs are now working to bring the player to Loftus Road on a loan basis in time for QPR’s fixture against Middlesbrough on Saturday, ahead of a permanent transfer in January.’

To be fair, despite the fact that the Lawrence balls up seems to be very much a case of incompetence our end, this was an error at QPR’s end – with it also being ‘said’ recently that another transfer in, and one loan move out, all failed to be completed on time.

If this has proven the case I could not say?

So, it looks like – much as we are trying with Lawrence, not that I am convinced this will be ‘ratified’ – we are now looking to do a deal where Smith is loaned to QPR until the New Year when we then sell him on the same principle?

Problem is we need money now…
