Season in a nutshell

There you go then, another reason why Pompey are midtable, adrift of the play-offs, relegation a nagging doubt, but ultimately a middle of the road side, average statistics, stuck in the vaccuum of the Championship.

At home we have a more than decent record, our away form is dire on paper, we lose more often than not but generally that doesn’t tell the full story, we have often been well in a match away from home, only to concede a late clinching goal, Ipswich? Cardiff? Millwall? Now Birmingham can be added to the teams who have been held by Pompey for over 8/9ths of a match, only to take all three points with the home fans leaving the terraces.

Pompey had their chances again, Futacs blazed a good chance over the bar, Ward was denied by a good save, but the end product was missing once more, as was the marking for the Birmingham winner.

Pompey to be fair have been hamstrung for the last 3 years, we have a tiny squad by any standard, this may end up with good team spirit and unity, but it also doesn’t compensate for injuries and suspension.

I know the clock is ticking away on a winding up order, but I’m sure Pompey will limp to the end of the season in some form or other, what we need though is for our team to keep at it, show the spirit that is Pompey and we will be content, our small squad on the whole has the Pompey bug in their blood now, their are a few who are here on good contracts, but the core of the side are bluebloods now, if we come out of this latest pillaging once more, we may have something to build upon.
