During the summer if anyone had told me that Sean Davis would have been an instrumental component of the Pompey side, let alone the squad this season I probably would not have believed them…

To be honest out of all the midfielders we had at that time he was the one that I would have least minded seeing leave – not so now.

For some reason – although I must admit he might not have been my favourite player – he had come in for some major stick earlier in the season, which I could not understand really, but he has well and truly rammed this down people’s throats to become one of the first names on the team sheet.

He not only offers great protection to the defence but also bombs forward remarkably well – but his finishing has been abysmal! The goal he thought he scored against Reading has also been taken away from him now, given as an own goal.

Already he must be an early contender for player of the season, as he has been that good. As much as I rate Pedro Mendes I honestly cannot see Davis being kept out by him? who would have also thought this could be the case either.

Harry Redknapp has said that he is showing ‘England form’, which if he can maintain this then you never know, he may well still get back into the England reckoning yet.
