There are a number of Pompey ‘rumours’ today.

None, to be honest are really anything ‘over the top’ interesting or – and again to be honest – that new, but lets take a look anyway!

Basinas wants out

Like I say, and this kicks us off nicely, none are really anything new – this one certainly not, as The News of the World – here – just reaffirms Angelos Basinas’ stance.

Quite clearly he DOES NOT have a future at Pompey, and he knows as much: ‘it is clear I am not wanted at Portsmouth.’

So, with a world cup dream in mind he knows that he needs ‘to be playing regular first-team football’ elsewhere so will be seeking pastures new, again as he had previously stated, in the New Year.

I am not convinced that he has ever got a fair crack of the whip, although from the limited time I have seen him this season – other than pre-season – he has looked very much off the pace and struggled even against lower league sides…

Birmingham jump the Belhadj queue?

Nadir Belhadj sent a timely reminder to us, and potential New Year suitors, of what he can do at the weekend when he put in a very good performance, as well as scoring a cracking goal, in the win over Liverpool.

This saw ‘rumours’ of an interest from Spurs, among others, return.

Although, and again in The News of the World – here – they ‘claim’ that Birmingham are the ‘favourites’ to sign Belhadj next month?

Under new ownership, and apparently and owner that DOES have money, £3.5m is what they will pay us for him…

Avram Grant however has lavished praise on the Algerian, in The News – here – saying: ‘he played because Glen Johnson is the best attacking full-back who can go forward and create chances.

‘I also know that Belhadj is very quick to get in behind to score or get assists. He did a very good job. I think he came into play to do a tactical job.

‘He was full of energy and it was a good performance. And he also scored with his right foot!’

It was a tactical master stoke by Grant selecting him, but is this enough to convince Belhadj to stay? Will he play enough in the games to follow to want this, although he is off to Africa soon for the African nations anyway! Then again will it come down to the ‘it is too good to refuse’ as far as the money goes?

I guess once ‘rumour’ becomes something a little stronger we will know…

==========

Miguel Vitor deal ‘set up’

Pompey have long since been linked with Benfica’s defender Miguel Vitor, with Birmingham also ‘said’ to be interested in the 20-year-old but it is Pompey that he wants to sign for?

The Mirror – here – ‘claims’ that a deal is in place to ‘take him on loan with a view to a permanent £6m deal.’

All, as usual with this deal, sound extremely good – lets do it! Oh, hang on we STILL have that ‘minor’ of problems…We CANNOT sign anyone until our transfer embargo is lifted!

Until this ban is lifted I cannot really turn to much attention to who we will sign – not that I would expect much to happen anyway, nor would I really want it to be honest because we would just be adding more debt to what we already have, right?

That said, should this be lifted it is at least a positive sign that things are moving forward and at least allows us some flexibility to bring in some loans, or pick up free agents and cheapies, which would be better than nothing…

So, some stuff to sink your teeth into guys, most from The News of the World, which I thought was the Sunday version of The Sun? And we are now Tuesday, so that is bizarre anyway! There is not really anything new as such, but I guess a ‘slightly’ different take on some issues – so, which, if any, can you see coming off?

As always thoughts below guys…
