Words that will have people firstly having to recheck what they saw, but also rubbing their hands with glee have been spoken by Harry Redknapp.

He is contemplating deploying a 3-5-2 formation this season!

From Hong Kong, ahead of our game with Fulham tomorrow, which should see John Utaka make his debut he said ‘we used a team playing 3-5-2 against a team playing 4-4-2 in training last week and the team playing 3-5-2 won 6-1.

‘It’s something we’ll probably use out here and it’s a way we might go this season.

‘We’ve got Niko Kranjcar who we can use behind the strikers.

‘It’s a position he is used to playing.

‘I’m not worried about playing 3-5-2 in the Premiership.

If he does employ this system this season I would be more than happy, hearing it alone is music to my ears – and would be a far cry from our usual 4-5-1 away from Fratton, assuming he would go two up front in away games too?

It is all very well having an attacking team, but you need to have defenders and midfielders that can help you on the defensive side of the game too, with them also capable of doing the job well – and we certainly do have the players capable of doing this, so bring it on.

We have the players available to now easily play two up front home and away, so a 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 formation, away from Fratton as well as at it, leaves me feeling even more excited and optimistic about the times ahead of us.

PLAY UP POMPEY!
