Quite a catch

MickTait’s series of polls to find who, from names he puts forward, makes it into an ultimate Pompey XI continues with the findings for the keeper – read on for more.

Was it a race, no not really with a massive 60% vote, including mine for David James with Alan Knight coming up a respectable 2nd with 19%.

Shaka also received a respectable 8%, he certainly was an excellent keeper who helped us into the Premiership until he, following the appointment of a new manager Alain Perrin, fell out of favour and failed to regain the shirt that went to the ex-Liverpool keeper Westerveld, and when his contract expired in June 2005, we released by him.

For me where the surprises are well certainly the percentage votes for Yoshi and Chalky (particularly) receiving a 3% higher score than Peter Mellor, perhaps either my age, or the age of the voters or some mischievous voting.

Jamie Ashdown’s 2% is also interesting as it raises the question, there are five keepers out of the ones listed we think were better, however eight worse.

You decided…………..

Your choice for the best keeper since 1971 out of these?

David James 60%
Alan Knight 19%
Shaka Hislop 8%
Yoshi Kawaguchi 4%
Constantinos Chalkias 4%
Jamie Ashdown 2%
Asmir Begovic 2%
Peter Mellor 1%
Phil Figgins 0%
Russell Hoult 0%
Sasa Ilic 0%
David Best 0%
Aaron Flahavan 0%
Mart Poom 0%
