Priority Recruit?

|

Anton Walkes was one of the seven players Pompey had on loan this season. Could he be one that returns?

According to the News, Walkes is viewed as the “priority recruit” in the mind of Kenny Jackett if he could bring any of the loanees back to Fratton Park.

Yes, Walkes is another who lacks experience, but I liked what I saw of him and felt he showed enough promise to suggested there’s a bright enough future ahead of him in the game.

But what’s his best position? Is this as a full back, a central defender, a wide midfield role or centrally in the middle of the park? Clearly, the Tottenham youngster is versatile, which can bring plenty to the squad. Then again, at times, not knowing a player’s best position can be a hindrance.

Jackett confirmed an interest in Walkes, but conceded a deal is far from agreed if this will even be possible?

Walkes was certainly one of the more impressive of the on-loan players, so I’d welcome him back next season in all honesty, ideally on a permanent basis, but if Spurs were willing to loan him again that could work.

Meanwhile, another pre-season friendly has been added to the Pompey schedule ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.

The Blues – which could well see Walkes involved? – go to the County Ground to face Swindon on Saturday, July 21st. This will kick-off at 3pm.
